When my friends from other departments come to my cube to visit, we have to be sneaky. Otherwise my director comes and sits with us the entire time. He won't leave until they go and doesn't take any hints that we might be discussing something that doesn't concern him. That's pretty bad, since I don't see them very often. While butting into our conversation, he also talks down to us. The last time, he was so rude to my visitor, I went outside and apologized to her. Now my friends won't come to visit me anymore.

It sounds like your director is a little insecure. He probably thinks you and your friends are talking about him.
